Wyndham in the running for Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria award

Could Wyndham be the most sustainable city in the state?

The council is in the running for Sustainable City of the Year at next month’s Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria awards after being named a finalist across four categories last week.

The council’s green living series, environmental youth summit, active travel schools and litter busters programs are among initiatives that have been picked out as among the best in the state.

Werribee Primary School has also been named a finalist in two awards for its “waste not, want not” program.

The school operates under a zero waste policy. It uses a three-bin system in each classroom to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and to increase recycling.

Award winners will be announced at a dinner on June 12.

The council that is named Sustainable City of the Year will represent Victoria at the Keep Australia Beautiful National Sustainable Cities Awards later this year.
