Upgrades add to logjam

I was pleased to see that money has been approved for the upgrade of Palmers Road south of the freeway but appalled at the suggested solution.

It is clear that the fundamental problem in the morning peak is at the single-lane, north-bound sections, including the Skeleton Creek bridge, where the traffic light-regulated vehicles queuing to enter the freeway stop all cars going to the station and further north. This is worsened by the student drop-off traffic moving east in Dunnings Road, north in Palmers Road and west into Inverloch Drive, that bank-up the cars even further.

A restricted transit lane will not reduce the 20 minutes it takes to get over the freeway from Dunnings Road. This terrible state of affairs, only a short time after the station was opened, will only worsen as more houses are developed and the grossly inadequate carparking at Williams Landing station pushes even more cars to parking on roads.

Princes Freeway off-ramp at Palmers Road should also have two lanes. There is a long queue during peak time on the Point Cook side that blocks all traffic to Williams Landing and Truganina.

Rate rise lacks imagination

[Re: Wyndham bids for top rate rise, Star Weekly, May 13] The chair councillor of economic development and the economic development team is not doing enough. There are many better ways to increase the council’s income. Do it in the right and clever way! A primary student could probably do a better job of solving the economic issues at Wyndham. Just increasing rates is the most basic and probably stupid way. Employ someone who has more bright ideas, vision and views please.

Through a lens darkly

[Re: A life lived in the dark, Star Weekly, May 13] Imagine a life where even the slightest bit of sunlight makes your skin react in an angry red rash that could send you to hospital. Why was she posed in front of her window with the light shining on her? Her skin looks so red. Perhaps a photo of her in a dark room with no natural light would have been kinder.
