Bomb scare puts Tarneit in lockdown

A 27-year-old Hoppers Crossing man has been arrested following a bomb scare at the Wyndham North police station in Tarneit last week that put the area in lockdown.

The man reversed his car into the secure police station carpark last Thursday afternoon while a delivery was being made.

The police station and nearby homes were evacuated about 1.30pm while the bomb response unit conducted “precautionary safety checks” on the car.

Local resident Shane Lambourn, who had to leave his home, told Channel 9 the police had seemed “urgent”.

“We weren’t panicked; we weren’t sure,” he said.

Police later gave the area the all clear and the man was then conveyed to hospital for assessment.

Victoria Police are unsure why the man reversed the car into the carpark and would not comment on what made police evacuate the station and surrounding homes.

Police later released a statement confirming that no threats had been made.

No charges had been laid by the time
