Apartments and townhouses could be restricted to certain areas of Wyndham under a new council plan.
The Wyndham Housing and Neighbourhood Character Strategy divides the city’s established area into three categories – limited change, intermediate change and substantial change – as part of a plan to manage housing growth over the next 20 years.
The council says the strategy is necessary because 64,000 to 76,000 dwellings are expected to be built in Wyndham in that time.
The plan proposes to identify parts of Hoppers Crossing as ‘limited change’.
Intermediate-change areas will include modest growth in the form of townhouses, units and detached houses.
Substantial-change areas will see increased densities around activity centres and on strategic development sites. Housing will likely be in the form of apartments, shop-top, townhouses and unit developments.
Information sessions will be held this month to provide residents with an opportunity to share with council their thoughts on the plan.
Sessions will be held on May 16, from 10am-2pm at Werribee Plaza; May 23, from 10am-2pm at Point Cook Town Centre; and May 27 from 5-7pm at the civic centre.
