Netball
Werribee Centrals have overcome their toughest challenge of the GDFL netball A-grade season to date with a 37-28 win over second-placed Winchelsea. The Centurions made a slow start in wet conditions, and trailed by three at half-time. But they turned the game their way thanks to nifty moves by coach Lina Iuta after the break to out-score the home side 20-8 in the second half. Amanda Wilson and Madeline Hodgson halted Winchelsea’s attacking penetration, Nicole Stewart and Meg Noonan dominated in centre court and Ellie Tubbs put on the finishing touches with 34 goals.
Basketball
Werribee Devils are searching for answers after slumping to their eighth straight defeat in Big V basketball men’s championship. The Devils went down 86-69 to the McKinnon Cougars at Bentleigh Secondary College on Saturday night, despite another strong showing from Jordan Hughes, who finished with 24 points. In women’s division 1, the Devils were hammered 71-50 by Keilor Thunder.
Hockey
Werribee recorded a cruisey 5-0 road win over Frankston on Saturday in Hockey Victoria women’s Vic League 2. Lynda Tivendale scored twice and Laura Baker, Jenna Howley and Gabrielle van Dam got in on the act as the Tigers claimed their first victory of the season. In men’s Vic League 2, Werribee went down 2-1 in a tight contest with the CV Blazers.
