Lucky escape as car crashes into Latham Street house

A car carrying a nine-year-old girl careered into a house in Werribee, smashing through two rooms last Thursday night.

Emergency crews were called to the Latham Street property about 8pm, Thursday, and found the vehicle had crashed into the lounge room and bedroom.

Nobody was at home at the time, but the house sustained extensive damage.

Resident Warwick Zealey told Channel Seven he, his wife Arlene and their daughter had decided to leave home to visit friends just minutes earlier.

“If we hadn’t decided that, we would have been sitting right there [in the lounge room] when the car came through,” he said.

The driver of the car, a 32-year-old man, and the girl, who was a passenger, were taken to hospital in a stable condition after neighbours helped them from the vehicle.

A police spokesman said the car had inflicted “a fair bit of damage” on the home, with local council officers and the State Emergency Service called in to survey the
scene.

Police are still investigating the cause of the incident.
