The Wyndham leisure and events centre has a new name.
Wyndham council has declared it will now be known as the AquaPulse and Encore Events Centre.
Once complete, the $54 million Derrimut Road redevelopment will be home to Victoria’s biggest waterslide, five new pools, a gym, café and piazza, revamped events centre, extra car parking and a creche.
The council’s decision comes a week after Star Weekly revealed its naming of Eagle Stadium, the new indoor court facility under construction at the $47 million redevelopment of Werribee sports and fitness centre, a decision that has caused community uproar.
In a statement, the council explained AquaPulse was selected from the Latin word ‘aqua’, meaning water.
‘Pulse’, it stated, “symbolises the physicality of the fitness facilities, plus the excitement and fun of the pool and slides”.
Encore was chosen from the French word calling for a repeat of a great performance and “represents the world-class acts and events that will take place within the events centre”.
As with the naming of Eagle Stadium, Wyndham mayor Peter Maynard said the new name of AquaPulse and Encore Events Centre was selected following community consultation, including surveys and focus groups, which were held over summer.
“We needed [names] that reflected the calibre and quality of the facilities – something that residents could really identify with,” the mayor said.
WynThe AquaPulse and Encore centre is expected to open mid-year.
