Baby oryx welcomed to the big wide world at Werribee zoo

Werribee Open Range Zoo has again welcomed a newborn into its fold with the arrival of a baby oryx named Kebili.

The male calf was born to father Pharaoh and mother Mahdia, who two years’ ago spent her first few months of life at the zoo’s hospital being hand raised by veterinarians and keepers.

The scimitar-horned oryx were once widespread in North Africa but are now considered to be extinct in the wild.

They are only found in zoos, private collections and a few small protected reserves in Tunisia and Morocco.
