House hunters looking for a bargain should look no further than Wyndham, according to the Real Estate Institute of Victoria (REIV).
Properties in three of the municipality’s suburbs have been included in the REIV’s top-10 bargain buys in Melbourne.
Topping the list was a three-bedroom house in Werribee on the market for $240,000. The price was well below the suburb’s December quarter median price of $330,000.
The property was followed by a three-bedroom house in Hoppers Crossing selling for $299,999. Last December, the median house price in Hoppers Crossing was $337,500
Also making the list was a house in Wyndham Vale on the market for $352,500.
Other western suburbs rounding out the list included Deer Park and Craigieburn, with four suburbs from Melbourne’s south and east also making the cut.
REIV communications, policy and public affairs manager Paul Bird said the list proved that house hunters could still find bargains in Melbourne.
“For about $240,000, a three-bedroom brick home can be all yours,” he said.
Mr Bird said Wyndham suburbs remained affordable for buyers because they were “slightly farther from the CBD but still within reach”.
