The Paris Underground Cabaret can-can do magic

The Wyndham Cultural Centre will be transformed into a Moulin Rouge-esque vaudeville venue next week when the Paris Underground Cabaret comes to town.

French burlesque, showgirls, aerial artists, tap dancers and illusionists hailing from the actual Moulin Rouge cabaret in Paris will offer up a night of titillating entertainment where magic, illusions, song, dance, burlesque, comedy and cabaret take centre stage.

Miss Burlesque Australia 2014, Zelia Rose, is part of a big ensemble cast.

Magician Julia Madotti says the show has a distinct European flavour, with a big emphasis on magic and illusion.

“When people think magic, they think pulling rabbits out of hats and card tricks,” she says.

“Mine is very cabaret and has got a lot of colour and surprises. It’s a very joyful, happy, beautiful show – there’s nothing crass in it; it’s quite stylish.”

The 90-minute extravaganza is not for the prudish, with a spot of cheeky partial nudity and mild coarse language threaded through it.
