Werribee Fire Brigade celebrates 100 with open day | Gallery

There were plenty of stories being shared and catching up with old mates as Werribee Fire Brigade continued its 100th anniversary celebrations with a station open day last Saturday.

Guests included CFA chief officer Euan Ferguson, who unveiled a commemorative plaque recognising the brigade’s centenary, along with Federal Lalor MP Joanne Ryan, Werribee state MP Tim Pallas and Wyndham councillors.

Officially registered in January 1915, the brigade longest serving active volunteer, Ken Heddle, who joined in 1961, said the crew were more than just colleagues – they were like family.

Darryl Wells, who was captain from 1976 to 2008 and whose son Michael is the brigade’s current captain, said despite 53 years fighting fires in the community, the job was as rewarding as ever.

Werribee is one of Victoria’s largest volunteer fire brigades.
