A drug and rehabilitation service that opened in Hoppers Crossing last week aims to help people tackle the problems associated with addiction and get their lives back on track.
The 12-bed Destiny Transformations Centre will provide a holistic approach with therapy and case management to include biological and spiritual needs.
Those behind the centre believe its approach is part of the solution to a chronic shortage of drug and alcohol rehabilitation beds across Victoria.
Established through a partnership between Destiny Centre Christian Church and a Queensland rehabilitation organisation, the centre will also assist people going through problems such as marriage breakdowns.
Transformations executive director Michael Barrett said the centre would offer a nationally recognised drug and alcohol treatment program that has been running in Queensland since 1999.
“Each year we have the privilege of seeing many people experiencing difficulty in overcoming their addictions. They come in with a past and leave with a future.”
Centre director Dean Landy said the aim was to give hope to those who feel hopeless.
“When you have a substance addiction, whether it’s drugs or alcohol, your life often falls apart and you eventually hit rock bottom.
“Besides dealing with their addiction, our program is about enabling people to rebuild their lives, whether it’s through financial assistance, anger management or dealing with their emotions.
“It’s a 12-month program designed for people who have gone through detox and are fully committed to taking control of their life
again. When they’re not doing the course work, they all live together in a home-like environment.
“After they graduate, we also help with re-establishing their relationships, the transition to employment and things such as helping them with their drivers licence or to gain qualifications. This program has been running elsewhere for 15 years and it’s achieved a 75 per cent success rate of people turning around their lives.”
