Knights get cruzin’ for Show ’N’ Shine

Steve Russell is a self-confessed petrolhead. It all started when he built his first model car, an FX Holden, at the age of 12.

These days, he satisfies his obsession with his beloved 1955 Chevy pickup and an outlaw nitro funny car that can reach speeds of up to 450km/h.

“When I was young, I was in hospital often … mum and dad would buy model kits and I would put them together,” he said.

“Once cars are in your blood, there’s no cure.”

The president of Wyndham-based Cruzin Knights Car Club will showcase some of his cars at the second annual Show ’N’ Shine event in Wyndham Vale on February 22.

Featuring pre-1985 muscle, vintage and classic cars, hot rods, custom models and bikes, the event will also include music, children’s entertainment and trade stands, with cash raised going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions.

“We were blown away by the success of last year’s event,” Mr Russell said.

“We had 550 cars, more than 6000 people came along and we raised about $5000 for the foundation.

“This year we’ll have everything from Buicks to Fords, Holdens, Chevys, Ferraris, Mercedes, hot rods and drag racers.

“People can talk to the drivers, and some will even allow kids to sit inside the cars. It’s just a great family day out.”
