Win for paramedics, patients with new Werribee ambulance station

Construction has started on a new ambulance station for Werribee.

The station is being built in Russell Street, about a kilometre from the station in Bridge Street.

The new station will house the Wyndham Vale service.

Ambulance Victoria group manager Tony Elliott said construction of the station started earlier this month and is expected to be completed by mid-year.

“The state-of-the-art, purpose-built branch will feature ambulance parking bays, training and office space, and amenities,” he said.

“The branch’s central location offers excellent access to main roads to enhance ambulance response times for the community.”

The new station will be staffed by a 24-hour unit and two peak-period units, which will operate 12-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week.

It will be the fifth station built in Wyndham, joining stations at Werribee, Hoppers Crossing, Tarneit and Point Cook.

Funding for the station was flagged in the 2011-12 budget, with the then-state government pledging to spend about $21,000,000 over four years to improve ambulance services in outer metropolitan areas.
