Wyndham residents have the chance to sign up for a new cooking workshop on how to be creative with leftovers and waste less food.
The cooking class is one of more than 20 free events being held between February 7 and March 29 in a bid to inspire people to live more sustainable lives.
The cooking with leftovers class is informed by a recent survey, which revealed that almost half of the average Wyndham waste bin is made up of leftover food.
The class will be held at the Eco Living Centre, 28 Ridge Drive, Wyndham Vale, on March 19.
Other sustainable living events include a family day at Cobbledicks Ford, an introduction to urban beekeeping, and a workshop on keeping backyard chickens.
Council environment and sustainability portfolio holder Cr Peter Gibbons said the Green Living series offered great ideas for every kitchen and backyard.
“There are so many little things we can do around our homes to live a cleaner, greener life,” Cr Gibbons said.
“The Green Living series will introduce residents to some these and help them to think ‘green’ in 2015.
“We’ll introduce residents to bird watching, run classes on how to grow herbal teas and show people how to design and retrofit for a more sustainable home.”
