Armed robbery still baffles police, Werribee River searched

Police suspect that three men involved in an armed robbery at Sunbury last month are local to the Wyndham area.

The men targeted a cash delivery car in the car park of Sunbury McDonald’s just before 6am on December 1, stealing “a substantial amount” of money.

Two of the men were armed with guns and fled the scene on a dark-coloured motorcycle.

The other man left in a late-model Holden Commodore sedan, which was found dumped and burnt out at Little River the next day.

No one was injured in the robbery.

Last Thursday, police divers searched a section of the Werribee River near Riverbend Historical Park at Wyndham Vale for the guns after receiving an anonymous tip-off through CrimeStoppers.

Detective Sergeant David Woolfe, of the armed crime squad, urged the caller to get in touch with Crime Stoppers again.

Police are also appealing for more information about a white SUV that was seen leaving the vicinity of the car fire in Little River on December 2.

“With that and the information we have received today, we would suspect the offenders are local to this area,” Detective Sergeant Woolfe said.

Anyone with information about the armed robbery is urged to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
