Young people across Wyndham are learning the ropes and conquering their fears through working together.
Twenty students from Point Cook P-9 College were the latest to take on the high ropes and rock-climbing at Featherbrook Community Centre as part of Wyndham Council’s Working Together program.
The council’s youth portfolio holder, Cr Marie Brittan, says the program gives young people the chance to gain important life skills.
“It aims to provide young people with an opportunity to face their fears by being challenged to complete adventure-based activities,” she said.
“They’ll undertake problem-solving activities that help them in their development and will learn personal and social skills, like leadership, trust, communication and collaboration, that will help them forge their way in the world.
“One of the other benefits of this program is that it empowers young people by encouraging them to recognise their potential and build their confidence.
“The activities in this program are also designed to create team-building skills. That, in turn, develops their capacity to not only recognise their own worth but the worth of others.”
The council’s youth services are now being provided from satellite locations, including Point Cook.
