A Point Cook man will have his Ferrari impounded after being caught hooning with a teenage passenger in Sanctuary Lakes on Sunday night.
Officers of the Wyndham highway patrol detected the red F430 model sports car travelling at 107km/h in a 50km/h zone on Sanctuary Lakes Boulevard about 7.20pm.
Police intercepted the vehicle and discovered the driver had a teenage boy in the car.
A tow truck arrived at the scene but was unable to load the car without causing damage, so the driver will be ordered to surrender it at a later date.
The 40-year-old driver is expected to be charged on summons with numerous speed-related offences and failing to display front number plates.
Police will saturate Wyndham’s roads until January as part of a statewide road safety blitz, with drivers warned they could be caught “anywhere at any time”.
The Summer Stay campaign was launched last week and will run until January 4 in a bid to reduce road trauma over the high-risk holiday season.
Superintendent Neville Taylor says police will check speeds and conduct random drug and alcohol testing around the clock.
“We will be using all available resources to ensure as many people as possible stay safe and stay alive during the festive season,” he said.
