Point Cook: Probe on horror Princes Freeway crash continues

Police continue to investigate the circumstances behind a horrific five-vehicle collision on the Princes Freeway at Point Cook last Thursday in which a man was crushed under a truck.

The crash, involving three trucks and two cars, happened near the Forsyth Road exit. Emergency services, including paramedics, police, MFB and CFA crews, worked for more than three hours to free the driver, with three cranes brought in to lift the truck off the man’s car.

It is believed a truck rear-ended a car that was stopped in a line of traffic travelling towards Werribee and the car is then believed to have struck a second truck, pushing it into a second car before that car hit a third truck.

Ambulance Victoria group manager Tony Elliott said incredibly, the male driver remained conscious throughout the delicate rescue operation.

“The man’s car somehow ended up under one of the trucks, with the truck’s wheels coming to rest just above the driver area,” Mr Elliott said.

“Initially, paramedics couldn’t see the man from the waist down because he was heavily trapped.”

He sustained serious chest and internal injuries and was airlifted to The Alfred hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
