Bikers ride from Wyndham with Christmas spirit

Motorcycle riders from across Victoria are gearing up for this year’s Father Bob Maguire Foundation Christmas Toy Run, which will leave from Werribee on December 7.

And the Wyndham community is being asked to contribute.

Riders will depart from five locations across Melbourne on the day, carrying toys and other items, including clothing and tinned and non-perishable packaged food.

All the donated goods will be delivered to the foundation’s headquarters in Albert Park and distributed to needy children and families just in time for Christmas.

Community donations of toys, food, clothes, blankets and money will also be accepted.

The event is being put together by Independent Riders Group, the Victorian Scooter Riders Association and Freedom Riders of Australia.

Werribee ride leader Dean Marks said the groups were joining forces to make a difference.

“There are 350,000 motorcycle riders in Victoria and we’re like a big family,” he said. “We come together to support people going through hard times.

“This will be the first time the event has started from Werribee … hopefully we’ll be able to get plenty of support.”

The riders will leave from Chatterbox Café, 63 Watton Street, Werribee, at 11am.

Donations can be made by phoning 9681 3255. For more details, go to www.melbournetoyruns.info.
