November 13, 1974

Next Monday night Werribee Shire Council will make a decision which ultimately decides where the major shopping centre for the shire will be located. Council will be dealing with two notices of motion, which are aimed at rescinding the decisions of October 21 which reaffirmed the central shopping area as the future major centre.

November 14, 1984

Werribee nurse Margaret Vawser will receive a certificate of merit from the Royal Humane Society of Australia for her bravery. Sister Vawser leapt to the aid of the driver of the community bus when he collapsed at the wheel on the Princes Highway last year, dragging him from his seat and steering the wheel as the bus careered across the highway in front of heavy oncoming traffic.

The Local Government Board’s decision to merge Exford with the Shire of Melton has sent shock waves through the small, tightly-knit community which fears it could be destroyed by enormous rate rises and a drastic drop in services.

A 37-year-old Werribee man used a knife to keep police at bay for more than eight house during a stand-off last Thursday. Senior Sergeant Glenn Mayne, who headed the operation, said police from Werribee were called to assist psychiatric workers from the South West Mental Health Service who visited the man at a property in Troy Court about 1pm.
