More than 70 full-time jobs will be created in Truganina with an international food packaging company planning to open its Australian manufacturing headquarters here.
Last week, State Development Minister Peter Ryan announced that UK company LINPAC would open a $22 million packaging plant at Truganina.
The company, with 16 plants and 26 sales offices around the world, is considered to be a market leader in the production of fresh food packaging and ‘food service solutions’.
Mr Ryan said LINPAC would create 72 full-time manufacturing jobs at Truganina.
The company’s base in the western suburbs would allow it to introduce new packaging to Australian producers.
“The LINPAC Group will bring to Australia a new grade of food packaging, including the first fully recyclable rPET meat tray,” Mr Ryan said.
“The new LINPAC product range will help Australian food producers and processors improve their products’ presentation, freshness, shelf life and sustainability credentials.
And, vitally, it supports improved access to fast-growing export markets in Asia.” Mr Ryan said that, over time, the company planned to bring other categories of food packaging to Australia for products such as fish, bakery goods, fruit and produce.
LINPAC Australian managing director Graeme Robinson said Melbourne’s west presented a perfect opportunity and location as headquarters of the company’s Australian manufacturing arm because of its road and rail networks.
