In the lead-up to the day a horse race stops the nation, Werribee racecourse took the limelight as the contingent of overseas-trained horses contesting the Melbourne Cup took to the track at the annual International Breakfast With the Stars.
Former Irish jockey turned trainer Johnny Murtagh, who had Mutual Regard and Royal Diamond in the Cup, was given a taste of Australian culture, as he posed with a group of local indigenous performers.
Racing Victoria handicapper Greg Carpenter was there along with trainers including Andre Fabre, who saddled up Au Revoir in the big one.
Now that’s over for another year, Werribee is set to host its own Cup races and family day on Thursday, November 20.
