People living near Tarneit’s Humming- bird Boulevard will have access to a new $2.2 million reserve from early next year.
Work will begin on the reserve this month after Wyndham council awarded construction company Civilex Victoria the project contract two weeks ago.
The reserve will have two rectangular sports fields, a cricket oval and a playground.
There will also be seating areas and raised grassy mounds.
Work is expected to be finished early next year.
Sport, leisure and open-space portfolio holder Cr Peter Maynard said the council had endorsed the project in 2013 and since worked to incorporate in the plans the interests and requirement of sports people, spectators and the local community.
“The new design for the reserve delivers a safe, attractive and functional public open space,” he said.
“The reserve will be a destination for all ages to meet, socialise and play sport.
“The reserve will feature low- maintenance, extensive tree planting and warm-season grasses to reduce the amount of irrigation required, and it will enhance the character of the surrounding area and the Davis Creek catchment.
“There will be a sports field made with new soil and instant turf, and new irrigation, drainage, lighting and fencing.”
