Time for action
[Re: East Werribee job a ‘key role’, Star Weekly, August 27]: With all this now a fait accompli, there needs to be pressure to remove the Old Geelong Road railway crossing in Hoppers Crossing before it becomes impossible to leave the suburb.
It’s a daily gridlock, with vehicles from different directions attempting to get through that intersection and across the railway line.
They’re getting caught up with trains, pedestrians crossing, school students making their way across to Victoria University and Suzanne Cory High School and railway car parks on both sides of the track.
The traffic signal sequence is already challenging to say the least and, mixed with train services, produces traffic chaos every day.

Is Chirnside the right choice?
Who really goes to Chirnside Park? [Cash to tackle Chirnside flaws, Star Weekly, August 27] Has Wyndham council done any research on how many residents actually use it?
Taking public transport into account, Wyndham’s most accessible sports ground is at Williams Landing, and it’s also much bigger.
The council should invest there so that ratepayers’ money isn’t wasted.

Food for thought
Just over half of all adults in Wyndham are overweight or obese [City’s weighty message, Star Weekly, August 27].
I’m not surprised, given the junk food people here in Wyndham seem to eat at every opportunity.
And by the way, the lettuce on a hamburger does not count as one serve of vegetables.

Water benefits will flow
Great to see some investment in drought-proofing our city [Recycled water for Wyndham as $127m scheme finishes, Star Weekly, August 20].
Keeping our gardens and ovals green and alive over summer months will help save our drinking water into the future.
