Australian Showjumping Championships come to Werribee Park

The nation’s most talented horses and riders will make their way to Werribee Park next month for the Australian showjumping championships.

The four-day event – from Thursday, September 18, to Sunday, September 21 – is a chance for visitors to the Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre to see the country’s best horses and riders in action.

Participants will compete for a $70,000 prize pool in the Australian senior, young rider and junior championships, as well as the Australian speed championship and the national teams title.

Spectators will be able to enjoy the action-packed event in three open-air competition arenas and an indoor arena hosting entry-level competitors.

Equestrian Victoria chief executive Greg Pratt says the event is a highlight on the national calendar.

“Each year the competition is a must-watch event as Australia’s most talented horses and riders contest for the national showjumping titles,” he said.

“We’re delighted to be hosting it [at Werribee Park] for a third consecutive year.”

More than 700 horses have been entered, with registrations open until Sunday.

A late surge in entries last year forced organisers to build an extra competition ring at Werribee Park to meet demand.

Previous Australian showjumping title winners have gone on to represent Australia at the Olympics and World Equestrian Games.

Entry for spectators is free on September 18 and 19. There will be a $20 charge per vehicle on September 20 and 21.
