Police have been called in after a staff member at a Hoppers Crossing second-hand store was allegedly caught photographing a female customer while she was in the change rooms.
It is understood that on at least one occasion a manager at the Vinnies store in Costas Drive, Hoppers Crossing, was caught attempting to take photos of a customer who was trying on clothes.
A spokeswoman for Victoria Police confirmed they were looking into an alleged Thursday, August 7 incident.
“[Police] are investigating an incident which occurred at a second-hand store in Hoppers Crossing on that date,” the spokeswoman
said.
“Unfortunately, as this is an ongoing matter we can’t go into the specifics of the investigation.”
St Vincent De Paul Society spokeswoman Stephanie Puls would not confirm whether any photographs had been taken of a female customer. She indicated the staff member accused was no longer employed at the store.
“Vinnies Shops, part of the St Vincent de Paul Society, can confirm that we are aware of an investigation by Victoria Police into the conduct of a former employee relating to an alleged incident at our Hoppers Crossing Vinnies shop,” Ms Puls said.
“The society has and continues to fully co-operate with Victoria Police. Vinnies is taking the incident very seriously and parties involved in the alleged incident have been offered counselling.
“While this matter is under investigation by Victoria Police, we will not be issuing any further comment.”
