Cops’ plea over tyre slashing

Police are appealing for witnesses to a “senseless rampage” through Wyndham Vale earlier this month that resulted in damage to more than 60 cars.

Residents in 10 streets awoke on Sunday, August 10, to find their car tyres had been slashed.

The cars were parked in Tilbrook Avenue, Brimpton Grove, Aldridge Road, Pembury Way, Ribblesdale Avenue, Mundara Drive, Burchill Way, Barrus Grove, Barnsbury Road and Amesbury Avenue.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage of the attacks from numerous security cameras in the area.

The footage shows a man on a mountain bike using a tool to slash the tyres as he rode past the cars.

Detective Senior Constable Adam Sharp said police were still working to establish the full extent of the damage given the size of the area that was targeted.

It is believed one man was responsible for all the damage, which police said would cost thousands of dollars to repair.

Detective Senior Constable Sharp said police would like to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the Wyndham Vale area between midnight on Saturday, August 9, and 8am the next day.

“Quite a large area was targeted, so it’s possible someone may know who is responsible,” he said.

Anyone with information is asked to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
