Wyndham residents will be transported to a time when people wore ball gowns and coaches carried the town’s wealthy socialites around.
A Grand Gala ball will help celebrate the 150th anniversary of Wyndham being proclaimed a shire in 1864, with the event being held at the city’s most iconic location, Werribee Mansion.
Event organiser Heather Marcus (above) says Wyndham’s 150th birthday will be celebrated by reliving the area’s past glories.
“Guests will park at the front gate of the Werribee Mansion and be driven by glass coach to the event,” Ms Marcus said.
“Pipers will play on the front lawn as people drink champagne, and VIP guests will be welcomed by trumpeters.”
The name Chirnside is synonymous with Wyndham, with members of the family having built the mansion, so Ms Marcus is hoping three generations of the family will be guests at the event.
“This is really a chance to celebrate everything that’s great about this wonderful city of ours,” she said.
“There are a limited number of seats available – I really want anyone who gets in quickly enough to be able to attend.
“Just because this will be a glamorous event, it will not be closed to anyone. If someone is proud of this city and wants to come along, they are more than welcome.”
The ball will be on Friday, October 24, with seats for 180 people available. Tickets are on sale now and cost $125. More details: 9741 5146.
