WRFL: Werribee Districts stake their claim

Werribee Districts was far too strong for Port Melbourne Colts on the road at Murphy Reserve, cruising to an 84-point win in the WRFL division 1.

Chris Molivas booted seven goals and Tate McCutcheon had a standout game as the Tigers kept hold of second spot on the ladder.

The Tigers are on track for a double chance in their first season in the WRFL since crossing from the VAFA.

In division 2, Manor Lakes sent fellow 2013 expansion side Sanctuary Lakes packing to the new third division with their tails between their legs after a 52-point loss.

The Storm didn’t have it all their own way though, heading into the half-time break with scores level.

The favourites steadied with 13 goals to four in the second half, including five from Ty Priest, taking his tally to 52 for the season.

Tarneit will be looking forward to the restructured competition after being on the receiving end of another hammering.

Ominously, the Titans lost by 111 points to Albanvale, one of the sides joining them in the third tier.

Glenorden suffered its first defeat of the season after its score was doubled in a 42-point loss to West Footscray at Shorten Reserve.

Wyndhamvale defeated Caroline Springs by 40 points after forward Paul O’Shea bagged eight goals. O’Shea has kicked 83 for the season.
