Green thumbs can learn how to grow old-variety fruit during a grafting day at the Werribee Park Heritage Orchard later this month.
Orchard volunteers, including Scott Hitchins and Domenico Stefanile, have been gathering scion wood – mostly apple and pear – from orchards and gardens across Victoria to bring to the event.
There will also be a range of rootstock available to suit each gardener’s soil and size requirements.
Heritage fruit society volunteers will lead fruit-tasting sessions, while there will also be tours of the orchard by experts in bush tucker, edible weeds and orchard maintenance.
The grafting day is on Sunday, July 20 from 10am-2pm. For details visit www.werribeeparkheritageorchard.org.au.
