Laverton: Nose broken in road rage attack

Police are on the hunt for a man who allegedly broke a Williams Landing man’s nose during a road rage incident last Thursday.

Werribee’s Sergeant Shannon Thompson said police were investigating the attack that took place near the Westside Hotel in Laverton at 5.45am.

Police believe a man of Pacific Islander appearance swerved his concreting truck, swiping the driver-side mirror of the other man’s car.

He allegedly pulled up next to the car and, driving on the wrong side of the road, attempted to run it off the road.

An altercation then took place in which the alleged offender broke the Williams Landing man’s nose.

The 31-year-old victim, who was on his way home from work, drove himself to Werribee Mercy Hospital, where he received three stitches.

The man police want to talk to is believed to be aged between 35 and 45.

In February this year, police warned drivers to use common sense following an increase in the number of road rage incidents in Melbourne’s west.

Detective Senior Sergeant Jenny Wilson said higher levels of traffic congestion and the presence of roadworks could be leading to more incidents.

She said a large number of cases involved vehicles travelling too close to the car in front of them and drivers cutting each other off.
