Wild nights in Werribee
Werribee Open Range Zoo will come alive after dark during the school holidays as part of its Wild Nights program. Until July 12, visitors to the zoo can toast marshmallows, watch a shadow puppet show or get close to the zoo’s nocturnal residents.

World Cup at fever pitch
Farewell the World Cup at the civic centre, 45 Princes Highway, Werribee, on July 14 from 4.45-7am. Wear your country’s colours and wave your flag while watching the cup final from Brazil on the big screen. There will be giveaways and a free, healthy breakfast.

Concert band
Show your support for the Werribee Concert Band at Stage to Screen, a fund-raising gala from 7pm on Saturday, July 26, at the Wyndham Cultural Centre. The band will play hits and be joined by guest artists.

Plant a tree
Get into nature by taking part in a tree planting day on Saturday, July 27, at Riverbend Historical Park, along the Werribee River. The event, part of National Tree Day, will be held from 10.30am-noon.

Learn to play the harmonica
Show off your soulful side at Penrose Community Hub’s Harmonica Blues for Beginners class on Sunday, August 3. Participants can expect to get to know a C-key harp and how to control their breath for a sweet-sad sound. It will be held from 3-5.30pm.

Anger management classes
The Laverton Community Centre and Neighbourhood House is running women’s anger management, self-esteem and assertion courses, starting on August 12. Courses are also provided in meditation and for those struggling with mental health. The centre is in the Laverton Community Hub on the corner of Railway Avenue and Crown Street.

Antiques fair
Visit the civic centre, 45 Princes Highway, Werribee, between Friday, July 18 and Sunday, July 20 to experience the Hoppers Crossing Rotary Club’s antique and collectables fair. The annual event will be held from 6-9pm on July 18, 10am-5pm on July 19 and 10am-4pm on July 20. Admission costs $10.
