Luke Wenlock and Chris McMinn are on a mission to get Wyndham men to discuss their mental health.
The pair, who are heavily involved in local sports clubs, have organised a community night at which health professionals and sports identities will share tips for dealing with everything from stress to depression.
They have been planning the event for about 18 months after watching mental health issues affect members of their community. “We think that people are ready to hear about and discuss the issues,” Mr Wenlock said.
“We want to talk about men’s health in an informal way. We are both involved in sports clubs and believe clubs should be talking about these issues. They are real and they are costing lives.”
The event, on June 21 at Wyndham Vale Football Club, will include speeches from Werribee GP Joe Garra and Australian netballer Eloise Southby.
Attendees will receive a gift bag from South Western Melbourne Medicare Local filled with advice and contact numbers to use in times of need. Inquiries: 0412 999 377.
