Crash charges against Hoppers Crossing man upgraded as boy dies

Charges against a Hoppers Crossing man involved in an accident in Truganina last month will be upgraded to culpable driving.

Police initially charged Ian Bouch, 46, with negligently causing serious injury, dangerous driving causing serious injury and conduct endangering life.

But police announced last Thursday that the charges would be upgraded to culpable driving and dangerous driving causing death after a boy involved in the May 27 accident died.

The boy, 10, from Hoppers Crossing, died in the Royal Children’s Hospital on June 1.

Detectives from the major collision investigation unit have

renewed their appeal for witnesses to the accident, which happened on Hopkins Road near Greig Road just before 4pm.

Police said a Toyota van and tip truck were travelling south on Hopkins Road when an Audi allegedly over- took both vehicles and pulled in front of the van.

The three vehicles then collided.

Bouch faced Melbourne Magistrates court on the lesser charges on May 29 and was bailed to return to court in August.

A boy, 5, a girl, 6, and boy, 4, were injured in the accident.

According to Victoria Police statistics, there were five fatalities on Wyndham roads in 2013.
