Bunny bakers welcome at Point Cook Market

He’s late, he’s late, for a very important date. And if you don’t get baking soon, you could be late, too – like Lewis Carroll’s White Rabbit in Alice In Wonderland.

The Jamieson Way Community Centre is hosting the Point Cook Market next month and a highlight of the day will be the annual Create A Cake competition.

Hoppers Crossing’s Nola Cordell, a professional cake-maker, will act as a steward and is hoping to discover some hidden talents in the contest.

To show off what can be created with a cake, Ms Cordell made one in the shape of the White Rabbit, which matches the theme for this year’s competition: “story book”.

“People don’t need to be able to make something 3D; it just has to be a little bit creative and match the theme,” Ms Cordell said.

“People can make any cake of any design. It’s all about the creativity.”

Ms Cordell entered her first cake competition 36 years ago with a cake featuring Paddington Bear she had made for her son’s first
birthday.

This year’s competition is open to people of all skill levels, not just professionals.

“Anyone can do it,” Ms Cordell said. “Once you’ve got the feel of the icing, you can do anything.”

The Point Cook Market has been based at the community centre since 2007, while the Create A Cake competition is in its third year.

All profits from the market will go to the community centre, which is run independently of the council.

The market will be on Sunday, July 6, from 9am-2pm.
