Young people in Wyndham are sprouting green thumbs and getting into growing their own vegetables at the Youth Resource Centre.
A pop-up herb and vegetable garden installed at the Hoppers Crossing centre has become so popular that the council has decided to make it a permanent feature.
The garden was installed by Healthy Together Wyndham and Shoestring Gardening to support the Jamie’s Ministry of Food mobile kitchen, which was based at the centre for the past 10 weeks.
Mayor Bob Fairclough said centre staff would be trained in how to maintain the garden.
“They’ll pass on that knowledge to the young people attending the Youth Resource Centre,” he said.
“With more than half of Wyndham’s adult population overweight or obese, these are very important skills for community health.”
