Footscray Edgewater paceman Jake Haberfield has been rewarded for an outstanding Premier Cricket season with a Victorian Bushrangers contract.
The former South Australian state player made it impossible for selectors to overlook him after leading the Bulldogs to a premiership.
Haberfield took 59 wickets for the season, including three seven-wicket hauls and a bag of six wickets in the Premier Cricket grand final.
Victorian state talent manager Andrew Lynch said Haberfield’s selection was reward for his season at Premier level.
“He had a great year and performed in the big games,” Lynch said.
Haberfield played two Sheffield Shield matches for Victoria last season.
The 27-year-old brings an imposing state record to the Bushrangers.
After his 29 matches for South Australia, Haberfield had the third-lowest bowling average in Australian domestic one-day history (21.38), behind Dennis Lillee and Geoff Dymock, and the third-lowest strike rate (26.00), bettered only by Stuart MacGill and Shaun Tait.
Haberfield will be joined at the Bushrangers by Footscray Edgewater teammates John Hastings and Guy Walker.
Former Hoppers Crossing Victorian Turf Cricket Association player Fawad Ahmed retained his state contract, while Altona resident James Muirhead was also among the contracted players.
