Most people get their mothers a box of chocolates or some flowers on Mother’s Day, but Wyndham residents are being asked to think outside of the box.
The Werribee Open Range Zoo will host a day of festivities to mark the special day. There will be a garden party with outdoor games including sack races, three-legged races and tug-of-war, and of course, lots of interesting animals to check out.
Children can also try their hand at stilt-walking or hula hooping and can challenge mum to a quoits tournament or giant Twister.
“Lunch is a leisurely affair, with the option of treating mum to morning tea or lunch and bubbles in the Meerkat Bistro, or bringing your own picnic stocked with all of her favourites,” a zoo spokesperson said.
“Keep you eye out for giraffe, rhinos, zebra and hippos. You may even be lucky enough to see some of our zoo babies enjoying Mother’s Day with their mums.”
Children under the age of 16 will be admitted free during the day and if the weather does not co-operate the event will move indoors to the children’s play centre.
