A Werribee man will face Melbourne Magistrates Court on March 7 after being charged with rape and indecent assault.
Police allege the man, 28, sexually assaulted a 21-year-old woman who was a walking track along the Werribee River near Retreat Place about 5.50pm on Tuesday.
Victoria Police spokeswoman Kelly Yates said investigators interviewed and charged the man with two counts of rape and three of indecent assault.
She said police wanted to speak to a middle-aged woman who was seen in the area at the time of the incident. She was wearing dark pants and a pink top, and was walking a small white dog.
“The arrest was made through the collaboration of sexual crimes squad, Werribee crime investigation unit and Footscray sexual offences and child abuse investigation team members”, Ms Yates said.
