A Wyndham Vale couple is grateful for the kindness of a Werribee jeweller who offered to replace their engagement ring after it fell into Corio Bay.
Rodney O’Shannessy proposed to Sarah Lentsment while strolling along Geelong’s boardwalk promenade on November 30.
But when Mr O’Shannessy opened the box, the ring fell out, slipping between the cracks of the boardwalk and into the water.
The next day Ms Lentsment called Prouds at Werribee Plaza, where the ring had been purchased, to see if she could order a new one.
“We rang the jewellers and explained what happened and the owner raced down to Geelong with a new ring,’’ she said.
“We couldn’t believe he had organised a new ring for us. We couldn’t believe the trouble he had gone to.”
Luckily for the happy couple, divers found their lost ring in the bay last Monday.
“We didn’t end up needing the new ring, but it was really sweet of him to do that for us.”
