Improving Wyndham’s schools and public transport will be priorities for Greens candidates Bro Sheffield-Brotherton and Rohan Waring ahead of next year’s state election.
Dr Sheffield-Brotherton (pictured right) was last week announced as the Greens’ candidate for the new seat of Werribee, while Mr Waring (left) will stand in Tarneit.
Mr Waring, who recently became a Wyndham Greens member, said he was contesting the election because he felt the western suburbs had been ignored by the Liberal and Labor parties. “They haven’t invested in the physical and social infrastructure needed to fix our roads and trains or even to provide jobs in the west,” he said.Dr Sheffield-Brotherton, who contested the 2010 state election in Tarneit, said the Greens wanted to see greater investment in Wyndham’s schools.
He said schools such as Werribee Secondary College urgently needed funding to create a safe learning environment for students.
The Liberal and Labor parties are yet to announce their candidates.
Current Tarneit Labor MP Tim Pallas has sought preselection for Werribee, while Derrimut Labor MP Telmo Languiller is hoping his party will endorse him as its candidate for Tarneit.
The Liberal party is expected to hold its preselection early next year.
