Werribee is priming for a Christmas assault on top spot in the Bowls Victorian division 1 section 1.
The Bees have moved to second on the ladder after thrashing Kingsbury 93-66 at Chirnside Park on Saturday.
After their fifth consecutive win they sit two points behind ladder-leader Deer Park, which they meet in the final game before the holiday break.
While admitting it would be nice for the Bees to turn the calendar year on top of the pile, skip Snowy Barker said they were concerned about getting the processes right first.
“We have our destiny in our hands,” he said. “We know we’re entrenched, but we’ve got to stay focused on our goals.
“We’ll head into the next two games and then assess after Christmas what we’ll try to achieve and what we need to finish top two to maybe get a home final.”
The Bees are playing like a totally different side to the one that lost to Kingsbury in round one.
The merciless way in which they dismantled their opening-round conqueror has put the rest of the competition on notice.
“We wanted to redeem ourselves after they beat us there last time,” Barker said. “It was just good to turn the tables on them.”
The Bees opened up a commanding 20-shot lead by the halfway point and were never seriously challenged.
They picked up three of the four rinks, with only the injury-hit Mick O’Neil (-5) going down.
Barker’s hot form continued with a 16-shot win, while Peter Ware finished up nine and Rob Panton was plus-seven.
The Bees have an important road clash with MCC on Saturday followed by the blockbuster against Deer Park a week later.
Hoppers Crossing remains the pacesetter in division 3 section 1 after claiming an 84-72 win over Laverton.
Hoppers Crossing is one of three teams with an 8-2 record but has collected a superior points tally.
