Turf idol Black Caviar’s little brother, known as Jimmy, is recovering at Werribee’s specialist vet clinic after a suspected white-tailed spider bite.
Jimmy, the highest-priced yearling sold in Australasia when he fetched $5 million at Easter, has been at the equine centre at Melbourne University’s veterinary hospital for the past month.
It is suspected the bite caused an infection that developed into the potentially lethal hoof disease laminitis.
Early last month, it was reported that it was “touch and go” for the colt.
But Simon Marshall, a spokesman for the horse’s owners, BC3 Thoroughbreds, tweeted last week that Black Caviar’s brother appeared to be much better.
He said he gave the colt a “pat and a cuddle” at the veterinary hospital.
The clinic was unable to comment because of privacy issues. The unraced two-year-old colt is regarded as one of Australia’s most valuable horses.
