Joan Warwick dreams of a world in which children aren’t affected by cancer.
The Tarneit Skies Retirement Village resident, 70, is battling breast cancer and dealing with the side effects of chemotherapy. But that hasn’t stopped her trying to help others.
On Saturday, Ms Warwick and other retirement village residents held a fund-raiser to help children with cancer.
Ms Warwick organised the event after watching children undergo treatment at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
“Suddenly you realise how lucky you are – I’m over 70 and I’m still here,’’ she says.
“I’m sure a lot of parents can’t afford the care and treatment that their children need, so I want to help them out.”
Ms Warwick’s fund-raiser collected about $500 for the Cancer Council.
