Westbourne music prodigy Asami has first CD at 15

A 15-year-old Altona girl has released a debut CD for a year 9 project at Westbourne Grammar School in Truganina.

Asami Weaver launched her self-titled CD at a live performance with her sister, Suzuka, in Altona this month.

Asami, who has performed with the Australian Opera, began singing publicly at age seven.

She says she draws inspiration “from things that have happened in my life”.

Three of the songs are originals; one of them, I Miss You, was written for a friend who lost a close relative this year.

Asami’s singing teacher, Steven Zammit, helped write several tracks on the CD, which was recorded at Airwaves Studio in Altona Meadows.

Asami says she wants to keep practising her music when she’s older.
