A Werribee man who was found dead in a Fitzroy street earlier this year suffered multiple stab wounds, including four to his neck, a court has heard.
The body of Shaun Wright, 21, was found in Johnston Street in the early hours of March 17.
Preston man Fatah Issa, 25, is charged with his murder.
Rahel Teklu, 18, of North Melbourne is charged with affray.
A committal hearing at Melbourne Magistrates Court yesterday heard a stab wound near the top of Mr Wright’s neck had caused significant damage to major blood vessels, resulting in his death.
Pathologist Matthew Lynch told the court a fragment of brown glass was found in the wound.
Dr Lynch said Mr Wright had three other neck injuries that would not have caused his death.
Acting Sergeant Elizabeth Bourke told the court that she found three broken bottles near Mr Wright’s body.
On Monday, the court heard that Mr Wright was chased by a group of people after throwing an object at a parked car.
Two of his friends told the court that after leaving a Fitzroy bar with them, Mr Wright picked up a piece of wood and threw it at the car. He ran off before the car’s occupants, a group of women and a man, confronted them.
Security footage played to the court showed that a man and woman later caught up with
Mr Wright.
He was seen trying to walk away from them before another man entered the scene and swung at
Mr Wright’s neck.
Issa and Teklu were yesterday committed to stand trial at the Supreme Court.
Issa pleaded not guilty to murdering Mr Wright.
He did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody.
Teklu, who pleaded not guilty to affray, was bailed.
They will appear at the Supreme Court on October 30 for a directions hearing.
