FOSTER CARE: Hearts, homes needed for kids

Wyndham families are being urged to consider opening their hearts and homes to children in desperate need.

UnitingCare Werribee Support and Housing is calling for more families and single people to sign up as foster carers and give children a loving home.

The organisation runs the Bridges program, which provides care for children and people aged up to 18 who are unable to live with their parents. Earlier this year, Werribee Support and Housing revealed it was turning away referrals for children in need because of a chronic shortage of carers.

Youth services co-ordinator Jo Dumesny said the service had eight registered carers in Wyndham but was in need of dozens more.

Information sessions on foster caring will be held on October 29 at Crossroads Uniting Church, corner Duncans Road and Synnot Street, Werribee, from 3.30pm-4.30pm and 7pm-8pm.
