VSDCA: Werribee to hit the road running

Werribee will kick-start its Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association east-west group campaign on the road against Box Hill in a two-dayer starting on Saturday.

The Tigers made it all the way to the grand final last campaign before losing to one of their nearest rivals, Melton, and will be eager to atone by going one step better this season.

Their first home match will be in round two against Altona.

In the Victorian Turf Cricket Association, Hoppers Crossing will again be the highest-ranked club from Wyndham.

The Cats will begin their top-flight senior division campaign with a grudge match against rivals Airport West-
St Christopher’s in a two-day game away at Etzel Street Reserve.

Werribee Centrals are back up to north A1 after their premiership in west B1 last season.

The Centurions will host Aberfeldie at Galvin Park in a tough opening to the season.

The west B1 will be full of local derbies after a number of clubs from local competition joined the VTCA ranks.

Wyndhamvale was one of the clubs to make the move from Williamstown and District Cricket Association and its first port of call will be a meeting with Barkly Street Uniting at Wyndhamvale Reserve.

The Vales were the A turf champions in the WDCA last season and won’t be back to defend their title.

Point Cook opens up at home against Kingsville Baptists, while Seabrook entertains Footscray ANA.

In the WDCA, the A turf takes on a new look, with Bellbridge the only top tier local representative.

Its campaign begins with a home match against Melton South at Mossfield Reserve on Saturday.
