The signing of mature-aged recruit Jarred Moore will go down as a resounding success for the Werribee Tigers.
The former Sydney Swans player was one of the on-field leaders in his first season with the Tigers in the Victorian Football League and walked away with the Bruce Montgomery Trophy for best and fairest at the club.
Moore was a runaway winner of the award with 205 votes from ruckman Daniel Currie (121) and onballer Ben Ross (101).
The 27-year-old’s consistency was a feature of the Tigers, who made it all the way to the preliminary final.
Moore was praised for his ability to juggle his playing duties with a development role at the Tigers AFL affiliate North Melbourne.
“Jarred was someone we were keen to get to the club and he has shown in his contribution on and off the field that he was the right choice,” Tigers coach Scott West said. “On field, he leads by example. He reads the play so well and brings his teammates into the game. He thoroughly deserves this award.”
Nathan Laracy emerged as the reserves’ best-and-fairest winner after a tight count. The captain finished with 130 votes from Jye Bolten (113) and Jackson Davis (69).
Other award winners were Davis (most improved), Sam Wormald (most committed), Michael Sodomaco (most consistent), Scott Sherlock (coaches’ award), Darcy Fort (best first-year/academy player), Mark Stone and Mark Flahavin (best club people).
Meanwhile, Werribee Districts have appointed ex-Tigers assistant coach and Sydney Swans player Wade Chapman coach for their first season back in the Western Region Football League senior ranks.
